Coach Janelle Head Coach

Coach Janelle has been a proud Ridgeside Dolphin since joining the team in 2002 at age five. She began her coaching journey with the team as a junior coach in 2013, and became an assistant coach soon after graduating high school. She was also a member of the McCGPS Aquatics team, regularly participating in the Southeastern Short Course and Long Course Championships, as well as a state qualifier and finalist in Swimming, Cross Country, and Track & Field for her high school. She signed with intent to swim D1 at Valparaiso University, and later chose to walk on to the Cross Country and Track teams. She graduated summa cum laude from Valpo in May 2018 with a BS in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Music. While at Valpo, Janelle became the captain of the Cross Country and Track teams, receiving four top five Academic All-American awards, and was awarded the Missouri Valley Conference "Athletic and Academic Excellence" award for Track in 2018. She is currently employed as a Substation Protection and Control Engineering Lead with Mesa Associates. Janelle continues to compete in the sports she loves by training in open-water swimming and triathlons. Her favorite strokes are Butterfly and Breaststroke. In her free time, Janelle enjoys walking her dog, Mae, and performing with her choral ensemble, Chorus Angelorum.

"I am so excited to continue working with the Ridgeside Dolphins - this team truly feels like family to me. From the moment I joined as a young swimmer, the Dolphins have been a constant source of joy, support, and lifelong friendships. I am honored to give back to the team that helped shape who I am.

My goal is to create a welcoming and encouraging environment where every swimmer - whether brand new or returning - can grow. I'm passionate about teaching not just strong technique, but also the values that matter most: good sportsmanship, teamwork, and a love for the sport. Most of all, I want every swimmer to have fun and feel proud of their progress, both in and out of the pool."

Coach Abby Assistant Coach

Abby joined the Ridgeside Dolphins as a swimmer in 2017 and is thrilled to be returning for her third year as a coach. She began coaching the 8 & under group in 2023 and has loved helping the youngest swimmers grow more confident in and out of the water. Her own swimming journey began in summer league at the age of four, and she also competed during middle school and her freshman year of high school at Girls Preparatory School. Her favorite strokes are backstroke and butterfly (but really only for a 25). Abby is currently pursuing a degree in Economics through the William & Mary - University of St. Andrews Joint Degree Programme. She just completed her first year at William & Mary and will spend her second year at St. Andrews in Scotland. Outside of coaching she lifeguards and teaches swim lessons at McCallie. A passionate performer, Abby is deeply involved in student theater - acting in multiple productions and writing an original show with friends. She also plays the clarinet in the William & Mary pep band. In her free time, she can often be found reading a good book or playing games with family and friends.

"What I love most about coaching is watching my swimmers build confidence throughout the season. Coaching the youngest age group means I get to see so much progress - it's amazing to watch their skills and excitment grow week by week. My coaching philosophy is rooted in fun, team spirit, and creating a space where kids genuinely enjoy swimming. Summer league has always been about joy and community for me, and I want my swimmers to experience that same magic."

Coach Trevor Assistant Coach

Trevor began his competitive swimming journey at age six on a club team in California, before continuing in Tennessee with the Scenic City Aquatic Club (which eventually became McCallie-GPS Aquatics), the Red Bank Gators, and at the McCallie high school. In college, Trevor was a four-year varsity swimmer at Hope College in Michigan. Trevor graduated in 2017 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and minors in Physics and Math. After returning to Chattanooga, Trevor began giving back to the swimming community that shaped him. As an assistant coach for McCallie-GPS Aquatics as well as the Ridgeside Dolphins, he mentors young swimmers and fosters a positive, growth-oriented environment. Trevor's journey from local swimmer to collegiate athlete and coach exemplifies his passion for the sport and his commitment to nurturing the next generation of swimmers. Outside the pool, Trevor is the Director of Sustainability for Astec Industries, where he leads teams across a global portfolio of products to develop next-generation technologies for industrial energy efficiency, recycling, and decarbonization. Trevor is married to Janelle, and loves exploring everything Chattanooga has to offer with their curly-tailed labrador, Mae.

"My goal as a coach is to give young swimmers the building blocks they need to enjoy and appreciate the sport, while guiding older swimmers in refining those skills to help them achieve their goals. At Ridgeside, we strike a great balance between fun and learning - exactly what summer swimming should be about!"
